END OF YEAR SHOW
May 2022- Group Show
Bath Spa University, Locksbrook Campus, Locksbrook Road, Bath
Our End of Year Show was a group show at Bath Spa University during May 2022 to explore our development throughout the previous year. I used this opportunity to explore how to install and display my sculptures, this was the first exhibition I was involved in since starting sculpture and so it was critical for me to understand how these works behaved in a space and an audiences reaction and interaction with the pieces. It was interesting to view my work in an exhibiting space with other artists with practices that are unrelated to my own , I was able to see how they were understood in a room full of different work.
I had many pieces to exhibit within this exhibition with a multitude of display techniques to best suit them, I had the largest piece at the back of the room, in front to the window set in a large, round concrete base, additionally I used a red girder to display small wire sculptures, the girder kept the work feeling stereotypically masculine and industrial and as well as creating an enclosed space for these sculptures to fit into. Furthermore, the red colouring of the girder contrasts the silver and black colouring of the metalwork.
I have a handful of clay works placed on a small shelf on the back wall of the gallery, they are placed below eye height and so the audience would look down upon the work, the pieces are a depiction of the self through the imprint of the hand within the material.
The remainder of my works are scattered on the gallery floor in a seemingly random way, they are placed in a way that allows an audience to move through the work and experience it from a multitude of angles.
