LEAVING A TRACE

Leaving a trace, an imprint of the body to represent the self allows the body to exist within the work and for the work to have a constant reminder of the creator. Additionally, the sculptures within Leaving A Trace series have all been made to 15.4cm tall- this equates to 10% of my height. The imprint left within the clay as it is grabbed, squeezed and clasped is a reminder of my presence. Each sculpture is made individually  and therefore each piece looks and feels unique. The exploration of touch forced me to investigate what touch means to me, these works allowed me to feel the tightness of the clasp I had on the clay, to me this represents the stiffness and clenching of the hands I feel throughout my journey with Arthritis. I welcome others understandings of the works, whether they see anger, love, comfort or unease in the pieces.
